⛳️ How the John Daly drink came to be
Presented by:
Happy Monday. John Daly claims he invented his namesake cocktail at age 9 after his Little League team won the championship, dumping an entire bottle of his dad's vodka into his mom's sun-brewed iced tea, topping it with lemonade, and "ripping shots" with teammates while his parents were out. The two-time major champ shared the incredible story backstage before a Las Vegas interview, though separating Daly fact from fiction is always tricky. It may not be entirely true, but it's 100% John Daly—the kind of guy whose fishing stories grow from smallmouth bass to Captain Ahab chasing white whales. ⬇️
If you’re new here, welcome to Bogey Bois Golf. 5 minutes of golf news that won’t put you to sleep every Monday & Wednesday.
🔍 Today’s highlights:
⛳️ Ryan Palmer striped a drive down the middle at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship only to find his ball settled into an all-time nasty divot—a perfect golf-ball-sized hole so deep he almost needed a shovel to reach it.
👀 Nicklaus Companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after losing a $50 million defamation lawsuit to Jack Nicklaus, who claimed the company spread false stories about him considering $750 million from LIV Golf and suffering dementia.
🤔 Cedric Gugler received a 10-event HotelPlanner Tour suspension after playing his ball from the wrong place on greens multiple times in June, with playing partners Adri Arnaus and Aron Zemmer reporting the infractions.
⛳️ Dial in your game
Meet the Nikon COOLSHOT 50i GII, the rangefinder that does more than spit out yardage and call it a day. Slope-adjusted distances that factor in elevation changes? Check. DUAL LOCKED ON QUAKE that vibrates when you've locked onto the flag? Done. A built-in magnet so it's always within reach? Obviously. And optics so crisp it's like having HDTV strapped to your face.
Gone are the days of squinting at blurry reads or wondering if you actually hit the pin or the cart path behind it. The COOLSHOT 50i GII rangefinder delivers speed, precision, and zero guesswork, all in a compact design that won't add bulk to your setup.
Whether you're dialing in a wedge from 87 or attacking a tucked Sunday pin, this is the tool you'll trust when it matters.
It's not just a rangefinder. It's Nikon.
📰 GOLF STORIES
⛳️ All time nasty divot
Ryan Palmer striped a drive down the middle at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship only to find his ball settled into an all-time nasty divot—a perfect golf-ball-sized hole so deep he almost needed a shovel to reach it. The four-time PGA Tour winner missed the green but gutted out an up-and-down for par, saving a crucial score during one of the final two events where players fight to maintain tour cards. The debate rages: should golfers get relief from fairway divots after good shots, or does "play it as it lies" rule supreme? ⬇️
👀 Nicklaus Companies files for bankruptcy
Nicklaus Companies filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after losing a $50 million defamation lawsuit to Jack Nicklaus, who claimed the company spread false stories about him considering $750 million from LIV Golf and suffering dementia. The company listed assets of $10-50 million against liabilities between $500 million and $1 billion. Owner Howard Millstein and executive Andrew O'Brien weren't found personally liable, and the company plans to appeal. A separate lawsuit trying to prevent Nicklaus from using his own name for golf course design was dismissed earlier this year. ⬇️
🤔 One of the heftiest golf suspensions ever
Cedric Gugler received a 10-event HotelPlanner Tour suspension after playing his ball from the wrong place on greens multiple times in June, with playing partners Adri Arnaus and Aron Zemmer reporting the infractions. The Swiss golfer admitted in an initial hearing he "carelessly" said it was "possible" his ball wasn't replaced exactly right, though he claims he never intended to gain advantage. An independent panel ruled it a serious breach via reckless Rules of Golf infringement. Gugler will miss the first five months of 2026, calling it "a very difficult moment." ⬇️
