& The PGA's plan to attract younger viewers

Happy Sunday. Let’s start on a positive note…ever wonder what the worst ways to die on a golf course are? I know—it’s been on your mind too. Good news: Golf Digest compiled a list, and here are the top 10 (yes, these are all true stories!) ↙️

  • 🥇 Bryson & Tom Brady try to Break 50

  • 🚨 Hawk Tuah to the rescue

  • ⛳️ PGA Tour unveils Creator Council

What is Tiger Woods' father's name?

Last Starter: This one was tricky. While 61% of readers were technically correct that there’s no penalty stroke if you hit your ball during a practice swing, there are exceptions. In the fairway, rough, or bunker, it’s a penalty stroke. Off the tee? No penalty. Just ask Zach Johnson who accidentally hits his ball during practice swings ALL THE TIME ⬇️

🥇 Bryson & Tom Brady try to Break 50

Bryson has a YouTube series where he brings on special celebrity guests. Bryson and the guest attempt to “break 50” in a scramble.

The most recent episode was with the greatest QB of all time, Tom Brady. Check it out ⬇️

🚨 Hawk Tuah to the rescue

Before writing this newsletter, I usually look around for interesting golf stories. I’m constantly on the hunt for a headline. Did Tiger mention a “comeback?” Is there a new John Daly story? Bryson and Brooks beefing again?

But, it’s December—golf is slow, and golf news is even slower. When I searched for “golf news” this week, it was an absolute wasteland.

One of the top stories?

For context…

Paige is an OG golf influencer, and Hawk Tuah? She’s made headlines for dropping an off-the-cuff sex tip while in Nashville. Now, she’s at the center of a “memecoin controversy.” It’s 2024—are we really surprised? Probably not. Is this even a golf story? Honestly, I’m not sure. But, I’m working with limited material. So, here we are.

And if you’re somehow interested in the full story, here you go 😂 ⬇️

⛳️ PGA Tour unveils Creator Council

The PGA, like every sports league, is focused on attracting a younger audience. Teaming up with golf content creators who already resonate with that demographic is a no-brainer.

That’s why the PGA recently launched the Creator Council, a strategic partnership with some of these creators. The aim? To boost engagement and raise awareness of the sport.

I think this is a great move for the PGA. These creators have huge audiences, with a large proportion between the ages of 18-30. From the start, LIV Golf embraced creators and seemed to understand the role social media can have in driving eyeballs. It will be interesting to see how the PGA utilizes this group to drive growth and attract younger viewers!
