⛳️ Slow Play Kills (almost)

Presented by:

Happy Wednesday. Golf's slow play epidemic just escalated to criminal battery when 24-year-old Aaron Carbo allegedly punched a 79-year-old course marshal in the face for asking him to speed up. The Florida incident at Cove of Rotonda led to Carbo's arrest on battery charges against a person over 65, while a course employee who intervened also faces charges for striking Carbo in retaliation. "It's terrible about this generation that we have, just beating up old men over golf," remarked one young witness. This marks the second recent violent pace-of-play confrontation after a Canadian Monday night league fistfight went viral weeks ago. A harsh reminder that while five-hour rounds are frustrating, they're better than assault charges. ⬇️

If you’re new here, welcome to Bogey Bois Golf. 5 minutes of golf news that won’t put you to sleep every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday.

🔍 Today’s highlights:

  • 💀 John Elway's longtime business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck is on life support following a devastating golf cart accident (freak accident)

  • 💦 LPGA golfer, Mao Saigo, nearly drowned in a pond after winning the tournament (still in disbelief here)

  • 🤖 The "People's Country Club" at Bethpage has a serious bot problem threatening its public golf mission (and they’re CRACKING down)

Last Starter: 89% of readers knew that the “Road Hole” is part of St. Andrews (Old Course). Hit your drive too far right and, yes, you’ll be on the road. Or you may end up hitting the building. Either way, not good. But, thankfully, we already know how NOT to play this hole because this guy (generously) provided a demonstration ⬇️

👀 Free Sunflower Seeds

We are all avid sunflower seed eaters and believe they absolutely belong on the course—just don’t spit them on the greens or tee boxes.

Our favorite brand is SMACKIN. If you haven’t tried them yet, we highly recommend grabbing a variety pack from the link below. Usually, you get 12 bags, but they just launched Sour Cream and Onion as a new flavor and are throwing in two free bags!

SMACKIN has taken over the sunflower seed space because they contain 10x less sodium than traditional brands. This means you can enjoy them for significantly longer without experiencing that salty burn.

They offer 11 different flavors, including Cinnamon Churro, BBQ, Lemon Pepper, Ranch, Garlic Parmesan, Cheddar Jalapeño, Cracked Pepper, Original, Dill Pickle, and Maple Brown Sugar.

📰 GOLF STORIES

💀 Golf cart accident leaves Elway’s agent on life support

John Elway's longtime business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck is on life support following a devastating golf cart accident at The Madison Club in La Quinta. The respected NFL agent, who represented over 100 players throughout his career, somehow fell from the back of a moving cart on Saturday afternoon, suffering a catastrophic head injury. Despite being rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center, doctors have informed family there's no hope for recovery. Sperbeck has been Elway's trusted business manager for over three decades, guiding his post-playing career and co-founding 7Cellars winery with the Hall of Famer in 2013. ⬇️

💦 LPGA winner almost drowns after victory

Mao Saigo's first major championship celebration nearly turned tragic when the 23-year-old Japanese star jumped into the 18th hole pond after winning the Chevron Championship in a historic five-person playoff. "I'm not really a good swimmer," Saigo admitted after panicking when her feet couldn't touch the bottom. "At first I thought I was going to drown." Her caddie reported being repeatedly pulled underwater as all three women who jumped in grabbed desperately for help. The harrowing moment came after Saigo calmly drained a three-foot birdie putt to claim her first major title. ⬇️

🤖 Bethpage is cracking down on “bots”

The "People's Country Club" at Bethpage has a serious bot problem threatening its public golf mission. Coveted $80 tee times on the Ryder Cup-hosting Black Course are being instantly snatched by automated software the moment they're released, leaving regular golfers with virtually no chance of accessing this affordable gem. After an investigative podcast exposed the issue, New York officials announced modest countermeasures: a $5 non-refundable reservation fee, reduced monthly cancellation allowances, and a $15 no-show penalty. Critics immediately labeled these changes a "phantom band-aid" that fails to address the underlying problem. As Bethpage prepares for September's Ryder Cup spotlight, the battle continues to restore equity to a true public golf treasure. ⬇️
