⛳️ What's going on with Rory?

Happy Wednesday. LIV Golf just delivered a harsh reality check to its biggest stars: the nine-figure signing bonuses that lured them away from the PGA Tour won't be repeated in contract renewals. Players like Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau originally signed deals worth over $100 million each, but those mega-money offers are off the table moving forward. Dustin Johnson faces the most immediate decision with his contract expiring this year after struggling through missed cuts at both the Masters and PGA Championship. Former Masters champion Fred Couples claims Koepka "really wants to come back" to the PGA Tour, though Koepka has remained coy about his future plans beyond fulfilling his current LIV obligations. ⬇️

📰 GOLF STORIES

⛳️ Joel Dahmen’s first hole-in-one

Joel Dahmen finally got his first PGA Tour hole-in-one Thursday at the Charles Schwab Challenge, signature bucket hat and all. The fan favorite desperately needed a bounce-back moment after choking away a three-foot par putt for victory in April, then missing three straight cuts. Surprisingly, Thursday's ace was Dahmen's first in 224 Tour starts. ⬇️

👀 Something is going on with Rory

Rory McIlroy just skipped his third signature event this season, withdrawing from next week's Memorial Tournament despite its $20 million purse. The reigning Masters champion becomes the latest top player to bypass these marquee events—following Scottie Scheffler's Truist Championship absence and his own RBC Heritage skip. This marks McIlroy's first Memorial absence in eight years, breaking his consistent presence at Jack Nicklaus's prestigious event since 2017. The decision comes after a disappointing T47 finish at the PGA Championship, where he also dealt with a driver controversy and skipped media duties. Two years ago, McIlroy paid a $3 million penalty for skipping the RBC Heritage, calling it "worth it" to get personal matters in place. ⬇️

👷‍♀️ Vietnam to build Trump golf resort

Vietnam just fast-tracked a $1.5 billion Trump golf resort through its approval process in three months—a timeline that usually takes years—as the country scrambles to avoid crushing tariffs. The Trump International Hanoi project bypassed environmental reviews and cut short public comment periods, leaving hundreds of local residents facing land seizures at below-market prices. One farmer could lose ancestral burial grounds dating back five generations. Vietnamese officials admitted the project was "receiving special attention from the Trump administration and President Donald Trump personally," despite White House denials of any connection. The luxury development features two championship golf courses designed by Bryson DeChambeau and comes as Vietnam faces a 46% tariff threat if no new trade deal emerges by July. ⬇️
